A ‘Closed Letter’ to my Comrades (Open for who?)

Dear Comrades

I hope you are all well.

I would have gladly communicated with you via our usual means of communication, but unfortunately, with the recent spate of spying and intelligence gathering that has been going on around, I feared this message might fall into the wrong hands, and we would find ourselves at loggerheads with the beast. So, I had to choose between the ‘devil and the deep blue sea’. I chose the latter.

Would you choose to stop breathing, if you had the choice?

I couldn’t help but wonder, as I went through the many lists of tragedies and happenings that have grabbed the world by the ‘collar’ lately. What the ‘world of choice’ is to us and what we, as mere human beings have control over.

Convoluted words strewn from tears long dried from my eyes
Blood-shot and weary, they stared days and night at the dying moon

Anticipating the day the sun will bow down and kiss the earth’s bosom

The day the rivers and streams will shut their overflowing mouths

Air headedly disapproving the gaze of the dry, old Baobab tree
