If you missed this inaugural conference that took place at the CTICC in Cape Town, then maybe next year is another opportunity for you to find your way to this convention.

Kicking off with a live interview on SABC 2’s Morning Live Show, with the Communications Minister of South Africa Dina Pule, it was surely a long awaited initiation to it.

Themed “Bridging the Digital Divide”, the conference attracted a hefty quantity of delegates from all corners of this ‘global village’, convening to divulge the kind of benefits that the growth of ICT Industries would bring, chiefly to budding economies like those in the African continent, and beyond the continent's borders.

Among the notable international dignitaries was Deputy Secretary General of the International Telecommunications Union Mr. Houlin Zhao, Standing Commissioner in the Korean Communication Commission, Mr. Choong Seek Kim and Professor A Bruck, from the World Summit Awards.

In a marathon of plenary sessions, there was no time to leave loose ends, and the audience was courteously involved, and thus upholding its name as an ‘Indaba’, a Zulu word that stands for ‘meeting’. It was simply that, with a wide range of activities, from Breakaway Sessions that dealt exhaustively with issues that individual delegates might have had a major interest in, to exhibition halls that had a mixture of products, information on miscellaneous items, and gadgets that were simply ambassadors to the ‘digital era’ that world is spear-heading for.

The event also saw key players in the communication and ICT industries in South Africa, bring something to the table. These include MTN, Vodacom, CellC, Telkom, Multichoice and Altech contribute to this austere endeavor that Africa, and primarily, but not exclusively, the BRICS members (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa), are about to embark on.
The closing note started with a “Partnership Forum”. Entrepreneurial colleagues and investors wanting to have an understanding of what entrepreneurship means, and how people can capitalize on innovation, came on board to tackle this issue. If your main goal is creating wealth, then you are not an entrepreneur. Entrepreneurship is about innovation. It’s about end-user satisfaction,” said Alan Knott-Craig, Chief Executive Officer: CellC.
Deputy Secretary-General for ITU Mr. Zhao brought to the audience the declarations that had been reached, and what the emissaries had agreed on, and 80% percent broadband connectivity to all citizens in Africa by 2020 has become one of their targets.
