It’s Monday;
that not-so-friendly day of the week that everyone in almost every corner of
the world wishes to skip and dive head-first straight into Tuesday. It always
gets to me too. Mondays haven’t changed a bit. I thought it was simply because I
was in high school that I forever found Mondays to be a torment in my life. Weekends
are always fun and interesting, but Monday creeps up like a thief; patiently squatting
on the curve waiting to pounce on our drained bodies; hammered by all the activity
during the weekend.
So here I
am this early in the morning, sitting in this newly revamped newsroom, aptly
fashioned for the journalism bunch and heavily armed with much faster machines
and wide-screen monitors which will make difficult online-news-reading and super-slow
post-uploading sessions a thing of the past. It even smells good, with a fresh
aura floating through it and warm rays of the sun slowly crawling through the
window panes behind me. Trust me; it’s all a person can wish for on a day like
this. Maybe the next step is for the department to throw in a coffee machine
right next to the door. It will be the last stroke in their effort to bless us
with all this V.I.P indulgence. But I sadly doubt they will be doing that
anytime soon.
Anyway,
enough about the lab, at hand is one disturbing issue that came up over the weekend.
I’m sure a lot of people who follow me on twitter and maybe some who occasionally
bump into some of my tweets have noticed one or two things about me in terms of
my tweets. Firstly, I am one person who is entirely passionate about life. If there
is anything interesting in this world, it is life itself. Appreciating the
beauty of all things existent and roving in this world is what makes me glad
and willing to live life to the fullest. That is the reason I usually find myself
retweeting more tweets on personal development and advice on life than anything
else on this social networking platform.
Well, if
you missed the interesting verbal exchange between Nonhle Thema and Sean Pages
on twitter over the past couple of days, then you need to backtrack and get an update
on what went down. As much as their squabble could have nothing to do with any
of us, or we might not even have a clue where it all starts and how
deeply-rooted it is, what stood out for me is the phase where Nonhle calls
herself Jesus. In fact, if directly quoted, she said, “(sic) I am your Jesus on
earth... (sic)”. For me, this was just it. Whether it was directed to Sean
Pages, or to the rest of the world, for me it was the full stop. For somebody
like her, in such a profession and industry where she stands as a public
figure, I would (and maybe even many of you), expect her to have a little
respect for devout groups and denomination, who believe in the Bible and Jesus
Christ.
If you made
time to read the title at the top before taking a lunge into this reading, you
might notice, as you continue to read this, that Nonhle did just that. ‘Somebody
has to say it’ could have been what she had at the back of her head, maybe not
even cognizant what this kind of attitude might have on her somewhat ‘shrinking’,
not-so-glamorous life and career. If only she had taken a moment; just a few
seconds to forecast the kind of damage her spoken (or rather ‘typed’) words
would have on all people who believe in God, and know Jesus Christ as their Life
and Savior they have been taught of, through the years, at home and at church.
Her actions
paint one intoxicating, yet very dull picture of what money turns some people
into. At times people get so caught up in the flamboyant web of camera lights,
shimmering accessories and ‘pink’ champagne that they forget the presence of
other souls that exist around them. In this world we are nothing but apparatus
that survive to pave a better path for those that remain and the many that will
follow. There is no need to see ourselves as above everything, arrogant and immune even
to the feelings of fellow citizens that surround us in the little spaces that we live in.
Everybody is
now entitled to what we have come to call ‘freedom of speech’, but how free is
your speech if it is prejudicial to the next person? I can never be a judge of
character, nor a referee in the day to day bickering of celebrities, but like
my title for today says it; ‘Somebody has to say it’, I am simply doing just
that. Hopefully these ‘main’ characters in our entertainment and lifestyle
trade get a chance to look at their lives and actions from an aerial point of view
because we, as the public, have a an exceptional view of all the mini and major
angles of their lives, known and unknown. I rest my case. Till next time,
Nonhle, and be assured I will be waiting patiently on the curve like this day of the week
called Monday, just to go,’ Somebody Had to Say It’!!

I think Nonhle needs to some help from traditional peoples, and pour some vodoo on her stupid attitude
