I sat all alone today and a plethora of thoughts kept crawling in and out of my head. What stood out is the fact that our world is forever changing, and all we have to do is simply abide to its currents and tides, all the same forsaking all the other norms and dogmas that had become part and parcel of our daily lives.
I remembered the days when one could strike a conversation with a simple smile. One could easily sweep a lady off her feet with two or three words phrased appropriately and said at the right time. A lady could have a man tremble at the knees because of a bright, genuine smile coupled with a short-lived yet meaningful wave of the hand just to say goodbye. Relationships used to be easy to start, as long as there was a mutual understanding between the two parties, and they used to last long enough to see the partners grow old together, with a chain of children and grandchildren beautifully scattered all over the house.
These days so many things influence the way people date and start their relationships. People now put into consideration the kind of upbringing one had; the kind of lifestyle they experienced and what family they come from. One goes through a vetting scheme, where friends and family critically scrutinize the individual, up until they have compiled a satisfactory record of their entire life in one complete manuscript, fully detailed and contextualized with every single bit of one’s life since the day they set foot onto this earth. A person’s build is put to test, so as to know the kind of genes or kids he or she Is likely to bear. Their worth, in terms of knowledge and academic accomplishments, if any. All this is just a step into coming up with an apt taxonomy system to position one partner in strict dissimilarity with the other.
I hope it’s going to change and get back to ‘normal’, but certainly it will take time, because as it is, the world continues to change, and every day brings new and advanced challenges, especially in this technological era that we live in.
