If all this was just a dream….

If all this was just a dream. If it was just a passing phase, chronicled deep in the realms of oblivion and arbitrarily spread foundations far beyond life and existence. If it was just but a spectacle so minute it would event hurt a single fly. We would live like there was no tomorrow; as we would suckle from the earth’s bosom and continue to flourish in this beautiful world. It would be great. It would be the happiest days of lives as we roam freely in that void, forever.
Unfortunately this is not the world we face. This is not the colorful fairytale we find ourselves entangled in. This, here, is our land; splashed with a multitude of pockets of chaos, uniformly spread and garnished with turmoil and distress. Every day is like a new day. Not because what existed yesterday had suddenly vanished into the unknown, but because the experiences always seem fresh, albeit the stark semblance in the plight and evils faced the day before with the present day.
I look at the world of politics. Have we not cried and moaned the same way out fathers and mothers did? To some, today it seems a lot better. Their tears fall not to the arid land but on their chapped cheeks. Their cries have long ceased to echo in the belly of these valleys that we rummage through. But still, have we ceased crying I ask? These eyes remain bloodshot; because of tears that have refused to fall neither on to the ground nor our cheeks. They remain clustered in the comfort of these fragile eyelids, burning hot with the emotions that awaken them from their deep-rooted springs.
Our leaders remain unshaken; oblivious of these cries that continue to shake the walls of every household. It is as if their ears only respond to praise, commendation and applause. They are forever happy when the public sees nothing but the good they have done, which is just but a distinct molecule if put in juxtaposition with the immense percentage of unsatisfactory deeds and policies they have amassed over the years. It is well beyond what anyone expected. Their game has ceased to be a dirty one but a dangerous one, with millions of lives miraculously clinging to life with both hands, because of deals that have gone sour or a gamble that ended up putting people’s lives at risk.
Like I said, if only this was just a dream. Unfortunately it is reality and all we can do is brace ourselves for these unfolding episodes. If it was surely a dream, we would all anticipate, with soggy eyes, that last vista to its epilogue. We would march on fearlessly for we would have suffered more than our share. Be sturdy and composed, brothers and sisters, for this is the ride we are all going to take, and it does not show any sight of a finish line. Let us find a passage way through all these ‘thorns’ piercing through our feet on these rough paths. Let us not be shaken but motivated. The world is for us all and life is nothing but a gift God has given to us; no one should deprive you of it nor does anyone have the right to take it away from you. Live it. Love it, but most importantly, cherish it.
Till next time…
